Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic digestive condition where stomach acid or, occasionally, stomach contents flow back into the esophagus, causing irritation and inflammation. Medications such as antacids, H2 receptor antagonists, and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) can help reduce stomach acid and manage symptoms.
